September 20, 2018
ALLENTOWN– Zach Juhasz of Bethlehem Township shot a steady 4-under-par 70-70–140 at Allentown Municipal Golf Course to win the 65th annual Allentown City Amateur Stroke Play Championship.
Juhasz, a 21-year-old former Freedom High School golfer (2015), won by five strokes over former Parkland golfer John Dimler (74-71-145), and former Bangor golfer Steve Gonzales, who shot 73-72-145. Dimler was also a runner-up in the event in 2017.
Drew Warner, a recent Moravian Academy graduate, was fourth at 73-74-147.
Holding a three-stroke lead entering Sunday’s final round, Juhasz shot 3-under-par 33 on the front nine to build a four stroke edge over Warner. Juhasz managed to keep a comfortable lead throughout the back nine.
Juhasz won the 2017 Lehigh Valley Tournament of Champions at Northampton Country Club. As a senior at Freedom, Juhasz, qualified for the 2014 PIAA Golf Championship.
In the senior amateur division, Jeff Hudson of Upper Saucon Township shot 10-under-par 66-68-134 to edge Dave Blichar of Upper Macungie Township, who shot 70-67-137. Hudson, 53, previously won the Bethlehem Golf Club Amateur Stroke Play Championship senior division in July.
Last year, the 54-year-old Blichar two-putt for par from 40 feet on the first sudden-death playoff hole to win the title over Hudson in the event.
