Luke Smith wins 21st annual Northeast PA Amateur Stroke Play Championship
June 13, 2016
POLK TWP. — Luke Smith of Bethlehem held on Sunday to win the 21st annual Northeast Pennsylvania Amateur Stroke Play Championship at Hideaway Hills Golf Club.
Smith, 26, shot a 36-hole score of 11-over-par 73-82–155 to edge three players by two strokes: two-time champion John Olszewski of Lower Macungie Township, Dan Joseph of Cranford, NJ, and defending champion Matt Pfancook of Towamensing Township.
Smith, a former two-time all-conference golfer at Moravian College, held a comfortable lead throughout most of the final round. However, a hooked drive on the par-4 17th hole, which led to a lost ball penalty and a double bogey, cut Smith’s lead to two strokes. He two-putted for par on the par-5 18th green to clinch the victory.
